Discover quintessential mountain biking with the Marathon Cup by Scott & Taymory in Vall de Boí16-05-2018
Two races in the Marathon Cup by Scott & Taymory have been held already. Sant Joan de Mediona and Aguilar de Segarra were most definitely two leg-breaking races indeed. The next race will follow a similar pattern, with a route full of sections shared with the Sea Otter Europe Girona Costa Brava. This race in Vall de Boí will be the fourth of those worth points towards this event, and represents a radical change of scenery and terrain for this marathon cup.
Ascending to 2,250 metres above sea level is something that few races can do, but Vall de Boí offers that mountainous landscape to convert this race into something entirely different. With an elevation gain of more than 1,000 metres, this race will take riders from the heart of the valley to the peaks at the Boí Taüll ski resort. This is a great way to combine physical effort with picture post card landscapes. A race with a pace and character unlike any other. Here, knowing how to ration your strength and maintain stamina is key to finishing the route. Riders will also pass through such picturesque villages as Durro and there will be plenty to keep the best “descenders” happy. Everything that goes up, must come down. If this race has a total climb of 2,200 metres, it means there is a total descent of 2,200 metres as well. Most of these descents are fast and accessible but they will also offer plenty of opportunities for the most skilful riders to show off what they can do.
As standard in the Marathon Cup by Scott & Taymory, there will be two routes. The XCC covers 35 kilometres and has an elevation gain of over 1,600 metres. Meanwhile, the longer XCM covers 56 kilometres and has an elevation gain of 2,200 metres.
If the mountain landscape is not reason enough to spend a weekend of genuine mountain biking, this race forms part of the Buff Mountain Festival—an event for mountain biking fans full of activities for all. Not only will bikers and runners be happy, but so will any children and friends or family coming with them. A perfect end to the Marathon Cup by Scott & Taymory in 2018.
